About Me

Hello, I'm Gemma, and my journey to become a therapist was sparked by a need to help others.

It started in 2013, my Dad got very sick with something called Guillain-Barré syndrome. He was in intensive care and spent several years in the hospital. I would go in every day and see these amazing staff keeping him alive, and that made me want to work in a helping capacity.

So, I went to work for a charity that supports adults with learning and physical disabilities. I loved working there but began to feel like I didn't have much direction/I wasn't helping in the way I wanted to.

Then a couple of years ago, there was a devastating loss to our friendship group—the tragic death of a dear friend.

I just knew I couldn't sit in the back seat anymore when it came to helping people, I saw too many people in my life struggling with their mental health- 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜.

That's when I decided to start my training as a therapist, and I am so lucky to finally do a job that I love.

I love meeting people and helping them by providing a safe space for them to heal and talk, when maybe they've never felt able to, or ever felt understood.

In 2020 I went to night school to do my level 3 in Counselling Skills during the pandemic, which brought its own set of challenges. I went on to study PGDip in Psychotherapy and Counselling Skills.

I have completed extensive training since 2020, throughout training working within a cancer support charity in Liverpool, where I have continued to work post-qualification.

This invaluable experience gave me first hand insight into the emotional struggles faced by individuals and their families in the midst of illness and bereavement. It taught me the importance of addressing not only physical well-being but also the profound impact of emotional and psychological health.

I also currently work as a Suicide Prevention Therapist at a Charity that supports men in crisis. Men often face unique challenges in seeking help, and I am passionate about creating a safe and nurturing space for them to explore their emotions freely. Through my work, I strive to break down the barriers surrounding mental health, encouraging men to prioritize their well-being without hesitation or shame, and smashing the stigma behind male mental health.

I understand what it means to feel lost, accepting help is one of the hardest things you can do.

But having someone on your side can go a long way to helping you on your healing journey,

  • I offer online therapy through Doxy.me an online platform similar to zoom which means you can have therapy from the comfort of your own home with a brew.

  •  in-person therapy in Aigburth and Kensington Liverpool in  cosy counselling rooms.

  • I also offer Walk and Talk therapy in Sefton Park on good weather days where possible
